I remember I was compelled when reading Antigone for a World Literature class so this game caught my eye, and it was fantastic! Some of the references throughout the floors probably escaped me since I'm not too well versed in Greek mythology/literature, but I love the overall atmosphere, the adaptation of the play into modern dialogue and setting, and got really choked up by the end. Wonderful work!!
Holy shit. I absolutely adore this game. I love the original play, and this adaptation of it is fantastic. I love the lean into dysfunctional homes and family dynamics, which makes it feel like a proper modern adaptation the way technology or modern references never could. I adored Antigone's final conversation with Ismene that re-framed Antigone's anger toward her as a desperate hope that at least one would escape; I've always strangely liked Ismene, so it was gratifying to see. Antigone getting a final conversation with Haimon where she tells him she knows this'll kill him, but that it simply isn't enough to stop her was amazing. I loved the writing on the wall functioning as a kind of Greek chorus. I love Eurydice coming on stage at the end as the final messenger, the way it was used to highlight both her non-existent role in the original play as well as the inaction of the general populace of Thebes. I love the basement as a modern equivalent for the symbolic hand of dirt Antigone used in the play; not a proper burial, prevented from giving one, but a burial nonetheless. The one aspect of the play this retelling doesn't really cover is Creon's side, the conflict of a ruler, but that's understandable considering how difficult it is to translate that to a modern retelling, and I think his role worked well in this story. I also love how Antigone starts out describing what is behind the doors, before switching to 'don't care' as she drags her brother's corpse and gets closer to the basement.
I was blown away by this game. It was a fantastic adaptation of the play and a really excellent look at grief. Antigone's anger and impulse to shut down conversations as soon as people apologized for her brother's (singular very noticeable) death was very raw, and the level of the building where her only response is not to care hit hard.
i grew up loving greek myths, and the story of oedipus and of his children, of antigone, always made me feel a certain sort of emotion when i read them; i think this game just does a great job at capturing the weird sadness/melancholy? (not sure what to call it) of the myth
god i honestly cant get over the stroke of simple genius that is portraying thebes as a decaying apartment building, let alone everything else. beautiful
A gorgeous adaptation of Antigone, I love this very much. It's a short one but I really do have to take a break in some places because how heavy ... (and borderline oppressive) the atmosphere is.
Recc'ing this VN here on my Twitter, I am looking forward to more of your works!
Thank you so much for trying it despite not knowing much about Greek mythology/tragedy. It's completely surreal to me that you went and made an entire playthrough video - seeing a less knowledgeable-about-the-play reaction was really interesting and absolutely great. Can't express how much this means to me.
This was also my first real experience of Antigone. I'm pretty sure I've read the Wikipedia summary at least once, but this was still effectively blind. It seems like a very worthy adaptation.
(I am, admittedly, largely taking it as a caution against living in an apartment with so much mold and possibly heavy metal contamination that it gives everyone a mental health crisis. Side effect of the remarkably clever idea of making them landlords.
...and also of adapting the presumably-traditional ending, rather than "hello, fire department? So, my uncle has barricaded everyone inside the building, and promised to kill me if I bury my dead brother. Can you come break the door down?")
This comment made me laugh. You're absolutely right: there's mold, metal contamination, and there is definitely a gas leak in Thebes Towers, and all of those things are at least 90% responsible for the plot occurring. (The other 10% is Creon. It's always Creon's fault.)

this is amazing. I love antigone's defiance. This game perfectly captures the anger she has.

Well, I guess there was something wrong with their family. This story was indeed tragic.
Man.
God. God. What a wonderful adaptation.
This is so good! Antigone has always been one of my favourite tragedies and you adapted it so well. Great work ♥️
Really really enjoyed this. Absolutely gorgeous art and the dialogue was so real and cutting. Fantastic adaptation

Haven't finished the game yet, but it's great! Also, is Annie dating her cousin?
edit: finished it. what an ending. I'm not that much of a greek mythology geek, so i don't really know the characters.
Yep, Antigone and Haimon are cousins, both in the original and in this adaptation. As he says, there's something seriously wrong with this family...
this was way more tragic than i was expecting.... loved it.
This was absolutely perfect. I'll be thinking about this for ages.
this shit had me tearing up in a call with some friends this is amazing
i know a little bit about greek mythology and get a few of the references
this is so sick :)
